In an unforgettable display of skill and determination, Nikola Jokić delivered one of the most remarkable performances in NBA history on Tuesday night. The reigning NBA MVP tallied 61 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, but despite his historic triple-double, the Denver Nuggets were narrowly defeated 140-139 by the Minnesota Timberwolves in an intense double-overtime thriller.

Jokić Breaks Records with Historic Triple-Double

Jokić’s 61-point triple-double is the highest-scoring triple-double in NBA history and represents a new career high for the Serbian superstar. This feat also makes Jokić the first player in the 2025 season to score more than 60 points in a single game. With his exceptional performance, Jokić has solidified his status as one of the league’s elite players.

Notably, Jokić becomes only the second player in NBA history, after Wilt Chamberlain in 1963, to post a triple-double with at least 50 points in a losing effort. This achievement further underscores Jokić’s extraordinary abilities, even in defeat.

Denver Nuggets Fall Short Despite Jokić’s Effort

While Jokić led the way, the Nuggets were unable to secure a win. Aaron Gordon also contributed significantly, scoring 30 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and providing 5 assists. However, the Minnesota Timberwolves proved resilient in the final moments.

With the game tied in the closing seconds, Nickeil Alexander-Walker made two clutch free throws, securing the Timberwolves’ victory. In a dramatic turn of events, Russell Westbrook had an opportunity to give the Nuggets the lead but missed an open layup and fouled Alexander-Walker on a three-point attempt. Alexander-Walker calmly sank the first two free throws and intentionally missed the third to let the clock run out, sealing the victory for Minnesota.

Jokić’s Record-Breaking Performance and the Nuggets’ Playoff Push

Jokić’s historic night has only increased his MVP candidacy, as he continues to carry the weight of the Denver Nuggets on his shoulders. Despite the loss, Jokić’s performance showcased his resilience and continued dominance in the league. The Nuggets now sit as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, while the Timberwolves have won three straight games and climbed to the No. 7 seed, avoiding the play-in tournament for now.

Coach Michael Malone praised Jokić’s effort, calling him “Superman” for his near-superhuman performance on the court.

Timberwolves’ Balanced Effort Led by Anthony Edwards

While Jokić’s performance took center stage, Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. Edwards was supported by Julius Randle and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, both of whom scored 26 points. The Timberwolves’ balanced offensive attack proved crucial in overcoming the Nuggets’ star power.

Other Notable Performances in the NBA

Steph Curry also made headlines on Tuesday night, scoring a stunning 52 points in the Golden State Warriors’ 134-125 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Curry’s 12 three-pointers tied him with Damian Lillard for the sixth-most 50-point games in NBA history. With 52 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals, Curry further cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history.

For the Grizzlies, Ja Morant led the charge with 36 points, but his team’s four-game losing streak continued. The Warriors have now won three straight games and moved up to the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference, surpassing the Grizzlies.
