Caroline Weir’s home town return can provide “inspiration” for Scotland as they look to win back-to-back games when they host Switzerland on Tuesday, says head coach Melissa Andreatta.
Real Madrid midfielder Weir, who scored a spectacular winner against Morocco on Friday, is set to run out for her country at East End Park – the stadium of her beloved Dunfermline Athletic – for the first time as Andreatta eyes her second win in charge.
“You can never question an elite athlete’s motivation, that comes from inside intrinsically, but what can give them that extra step up or level up is inspiration,” the head coach said of the game, which will be shown live on BBC Alba.
“And I think she’s going to be inspired by the shouting Scots in the stand, the family and friends that she looks up to when she’s singing the anthem and the tackles, the running, the big moments that her team-mates take in the game.
“I think that’s what will inspire her and her team-mates to put in the type of performance that we want.”
